It is thought that only about five of the HG-1s were completed as most were made into HG-2s. It is thought that less than 100 HG-2s were produced. The HG series guitars are similar in design to the SC series, except have one or two G&L MFD humbucking pickups (depending on the model).

- offset double cutaway maple body, bolt-on maple neck, 22-fret maple fingerboard with black dot inlays, six-on-one-side tuners, standard vibrato or Locktight bridge, single humbucker pickup, two knobs (v, tone) and jack mounted on black quarter moon-shaped panel, chrome/black hardware, available in various colors, mfg. 1983-84.

- similar to the HG-1, except has two humbucker pickups, and a pickup selector switch mounted on control panel near volume and tone controls, mfg. 1983-84.
