- 16 in. wide body, carved top, maple back and sides, bound top, f-holes, rosewood fingerboard with dot inlay, pickguard, available in Sunburst finish, mfg. 1937-1941.
In 1938, this guitar was renamed the Model 1136 and featured changes such as full body binding, pickguard binding, peghead changed to a point with a crown graphic.

M-3/TONE CREST (1103/1137/1228/1282/1283)

- 16 in. wide body, carved top, maple back and sides, tortoiseshell body binding, f-holes, bound rosewood fingerboard with dot inlay, cream pickguard, available in Natural (1283) or Sunburst (1282) finish, mfg. 1936-1941.
This model was originally a Tone Crest. In 1937, this guitar was renamed the Model 1228. In 1938, the model was change to the M-3 (1137) and featured changes such as a five-piece maple neck, full cream body binding, pickguard binding, peghead changed to a point with a crown graphic. In 1940, Natural finish became an option again (1103).

- 16 in. wide body, carved top, maple back and sides, mahogany neck, body binding, f-holes, bound rosewood fingerboard with dot inlay, bound peghead with 3-per-side tuners, bound pickguard, available in Natural or Sunburst finish, mfg. 1937-1940.
In 1938, this model was formally introduced as the M-4 and a five-ply neck was introduced.

This model is also available with gold hardware (Model M-6).
