- single round cutaway multi-bound body, carved spruce top, bound f-holes, raised multi-bound flamed maple pickguard, figured maple back/sides/neck, 20-fret multi-bound pointed fingerboard with pearl cloud inlay, adjustable ebony bridge with pearl fleur-de-lis inlay on wings, gold trapeze tailpiece with engraved model name, multi-bound ebony veneered peghead with abalone fleur-de-lis/logo inlay, abalone fleur-de-lis inlay on back of peghead, floating pickup with volume control on pickguard, three-per-side gold engraved tuners, 17 in. wide, 20.5 in. long, 3 in. deep, available in Faded Cherry Sunburst, Honeyburst or Natural finish, only 14 mfg. 1969-1979.
Less than 14 Citations were made between 1969 and 1979. In 1982, Gibson produced three more (by customer request). Current production instruments are part of the Historic Collection Series (see Gibson Historic Collection Acoustic Models).

- top-of-the-line archtop mfg. in Kalamazoo, Michigan, circa 1978-1984, similar dimensions as the Citation, except is 4 inches deep, trapeze tailpiece has eagle inlay and pickguard has eagle landing in tree branch, floating pickup with volume control on pickguard, available in Natural or Sunburst finish, less than 30 mfg. 1978-1984.
The Kalamazoo Award model followed the Citation in production.
