Trace Elliot is probably most noted for their bass amplifiers, and they advertise themselves as "The original bass amplification specialist." The company was formed in the late 1970s in a small music shop located in Essex, England. Trace Elliot noticed that bass players were looking for an amp that simply wasn't available at the time, so they set out to develop one. This new amp was one that had flexibility and power along with quality components that were reliable. Trace Elliot nailed the bass amp market, then looked to expand to other industries, including acoustic and electric guitar amplifiers. Trace Elliot has been produced consistently since the 1970s, but distribution in the U.S. is another story. Gibson became the distributor of Trace Elliot, in the 2000s, which lasted through 2004. By 2004, the only two products Gibson listed were two acoustic amplifiers. In 2005, Peavey took over North American distribution, and Trace introduced an entirely new line of amps that are based on the seven and twelve-band graphic equalizers they are famous for.
