SUPERTONE

Supertone is another brandname trademark that was used by Sears & Roebuck between 1914 and 1941. These amplifiers were manufactured by a number of different companies including Harmony, which was a subsidiary of Sears. Sears used the Supertone trademark on a full range of amplifiers, guitars, lap steels, banjos, mandolins and ukuleles. In 1940, Jay Krause, the president of the company at the time, bought Harmony from Sears by acquiring the controlling stock, and continued to expand the company's production. In 1941 Sears retired the Supertone name in favor of the Silvertone trademark, which was brand new. Harmony produced amps and guitars for Sears with other names. Supertone made a handful of amplifiers during the 1930s and 1940s.
