SELMER

Selmer dates back to before the Franco-Prussian war in the 1800s. Henry Selmer developed a clarinet that was much better than anything else that was out there at the time, which became the first Selmer instrument. Ben Davis formed the Selmer instrument company after meeting with Selmer in the early 1930s. By the time World War II came around, Selmer was the largest producer of instruments in the U.K. The company really took off in the 1950s and 1960s when amplifiers became widely available.
Selmer amps go back to when they took over a small company named RMS. They produced amps under this name for a while in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Selmer then began putting their own names on amps. The company went through some changes and by the 1970s things started to dissipate. By the mid-1970s, amp production had been discontinued all together. Selmer still produces musical instruments, but focuses more in the woodwind and brass industry.
