Sam Ash opened the first Sam Ash store in 1924. Since then they have grown into several stores selling guitars, amplifiers, basses, and a variety of musical related products. By the mid-1960s, Ash decided to introduce their own line of amplifiers. Since they didn't have their own factory, they took the route that was very popular in the 1950s and 1960s, and had another company build amps with the Sam Ash name on the front. Oliver Amplifiers privately branded some of their popular models with Sam Ash. Jess Oliver, who started Oliver Amplifiers, worked several years during Ampeg's golden era from the mid-1950s through the mid-1960s. Sam Ash is currently run by his grandson, Richard Ash, and they have over forty-five Sam Ash music retail stores across the country. Currently, they do not produced or brand any Sam Ash amplifiers.
