GARNET

Gar Gillies was involved in electronics all his life. During the mid-1960s, the radio and T.V. repair business Gillies had been running evolved into the Garnet Amplifier Company. With the help of Gillies' two sons, Russell and Garnet, they formed a partnership and began producing their first amplifiers in the late 1960s. Garnet produced quality tube amplifiers, while Gar was the roadie for the Guess Who in the 1970s. P.A. equipment was also a product offered by Garnet. The late 1970s and 1980s were the heyday for Garnet until 1989. Because of financial hardship after an expansion project, Garnet stopped producing amps. However, Gar continued to work on amplifiers, fixing, upgrading, and designing some amplifiers in Winnipeg, Canada until he passed away in 2007.
