Gabriel Bucataru started building Gabriel amps around 2000, but he has been involved in guitar amplifiers and electronics ever since he was a young boy. Bucataru grew up in communist Romania where western products (mainly amplifiers) were forbidden, and the only amps he had to use were from Romania and Russia. In 2000, Gabriel moved to the U.S. where he became very interested in the low-wattage Marshall amps of the 1960s and 1970s. Along with Graydon Stuckey of GDS Amplification, Mark Durham, and Jeff Swanson, Bucataru started www.18watt.com. This site is entirely dedicated to the 18W Marshall amps. In 2001, he built his first prototype 18W guitar amp with a Gabriel Logo. Since then he has introduced the Grand and Voxer (later renamed the V-18) 18 Watt models, as well as a new 33W model based on the V-18. For more information, visit Gabriel's website or contact the company directly. Information courtesy The Tonequest Report, October 2005.
