Alexander "Howard" Dumble began producing amplifiers circa 1963 and he has become one of the best boutique amplifier manufacturers in the industry. The durability and tone of Dumble's amp is what makes them famous - many players consider it to be the best tone that they have ever heard. Many people (and companies) have copied Dumble's schematic piece by piece. In the 1980s, Dumble started covering his circuitry with a layer of epoxy to keep people from copying the exact design. Dumble also builds most amps to a player's own specs, and he has built models for many famous players including Carlos Santana, Robben Ford, and Eric Johnson to name a few. While exact numbers are unknown, it is speculated that less than 300 Dumble amplifiers have been produced. For more information, search the Internet - Dumble does not have his own website, but there is a lot of information out there on the subject.
