Squier instruments began in 1983 in Matsumoto, Japan at the Fugi Fen Gakki. Fender had established Fender Japan in 1982 in conjunction with Kanda Shokai and Yamano music. This trademark came from the V.C. Squier company that produced strings in the 1950s. Fender later aquired the trademark in 1965 and it remained unused until 1982. The Squier name was originally going to be for the European market, but Fender quickly realized that they could use it in the U.S. for an entry level brand of instruments. They first started producing guitars that were all Fender designs, built overseas that could be sold cheaply. Shortly after this they started producing small solid-state amplifiers. Among the most popular Squier amps are the Champ series, based off the popular line by Fender. Squier amplifiers only appear now in the Strat-Pak and Bass-Pak. These are all-in-one packages where you get the guitar, amp, strings, cord, strap, picks, and a video. Currently these packages include Fender amps.
