Designer/guitar teacher John Veleno came up with the idea for an aluminum body guitar in 1967, and began producing them in 1970. It is estimated that only 185 instruments were built: 10 are a travel guitar (based on an idea by B.B. King), one is a bass guitar, and two were specially built for Todd Rungren in 1977 that were shaped like an ankh.
Veleno guitars were numbered sequentially in the serialization. Production ran from late 1970 through 1975 (maybe 1976) (source: Michael Wright, Vintage Guitar Magazine). In 2003, Veleno guitars were reintroduced. For more information on Veleno guitars, contact them directly or refer to their website.
