Luthier/designer Walter G. Gura produced a number of solid body instruments that feature interesting and innovative designs. Though Turtletone was a relatively small company, they utilized a number of high tech devices like CAD/CAM (Computer Aided Design/Computer Aided Manufacturing) instruments. The CAD/CAM devices also assisted in customer-specified unusual body designs, as the design could be plotted prior to construction.
Turtletone guitars featured maple bodies and necks, ebony fingerboards, DiMarzio pickups, and Kahler or Grover hardware. List price for the standard instrument was $1,600, and many special orders/options were available per customer order.
Instruments previously built in Tempe, AZ.
