TOMKINS

Luthier Allan Tomkins builds handmade custom guitars, basses, mandolins, and lap steels in his Sydney, Australia shop. Tomkins instruments are all made from native Australian timbers such as Red Cedar, Silky oak, Kauri Pine, and Tasmanian Blackwood. Necks are made of hard rock maple, rosewood, ebony, and Queensland maple which is another Australian variety. Hand carved leather is also a major feature on many instruments. Pickups are Custom Tomkins by Nordstrand USA, hardware is mostly Gotoh or Schaller, and finishes are all nitrocellulose lacquers. Tomkins has built guitars for country star Gary Allan and basses for Tom Hamilton of Aerosmith as well as several Australian stars including Beccy Cole, Shea Fisher, Steve Ford, Travis Collins, and Duncan Toombs.
