SGD LUTHERIE

Luthier David Schwab first began repairing and modifying basses and guitars back in 1972. Schwab, who began playing bass in 1969, built his first hand-made guitar in 1976, a prototype solid body nylon stringed classical. Another original design was the MantaRay eight-string bass, which first debuted in 1980.
In the mid-1980s, Schwab was working at American Showster Guitars, making the '57 Chevy Tailfin model for such players as Billy Gibbons, Robin Crosby (Ratt), and Terence Trent D'Arby. The first of these guitars he built appeared in an edition of Playboy, in a section on unique holiday gifts.
For the past two years, SGD Lutherie has been located in a 150 year old building (once the home of Guild Guitars) in Hoboken, New Jersey. After having problems with the building´s owners, Schwab has returned to his former location in Orange, New Jersey. Schwab is currently not producing any guitars.
