S.D. CURLEE INTERNATIONAL

In the mid-1970s, Randy Curlee proposed a deal with Jerry Freed of Hondo Guitars to build licensed designs of his guitars. Curlee planned to beat other unlicensed copies to the market, and make money on the reproductions as well. Guitars had similar designs as the S.D. Curlee USA models, except had S.D. Curlee Design Series across the peghead, and Aspen model designation as well.
Curlee also licensed the design to the Matsumoku company in Japan, who produced similar looking models under the S.D. Curlee International logo. The Japanese-produced models were marketed and sold mainly in the Oriental market, while the Hondo versions were distributed in the U.S. as well as the U.K. Some models were distributed by J.C.
