Luthier Ed Roman and his partner Barry Lipman founded Roman & Lipmen in the early 1990s to offer custom-built instruments to players who were not satisfied with usual production guitars. Roman & Lipman, a successful division of the East Coast Music Mall, began offering custom instruments that featured the "most spectacular" wood available. After seven years, Ed Roman left to form his own custom guitar company.
Roman & Lipman only had two "base" models with the NTB Penetrator and the bolt-on Sceptre, and there were several options available for each. Roman & Lipman also offered the Intruder and Invader bass models. Entirely custom models were available as well. See Roman Guitars for information on any other Roman brand guitar. Roman died December 14, 2011 at the age of 61.
