Michael Dolsey grew up in a family who owned and operated pawn shops, and was always going in the pawn room to play the pawned guitars, including the classic brands of the 1950s and 1960s. It was that experience that lead him to his love of guitars. However, Dolsey wanted different pick up configurations with alternate wiring, but could not afford custom shop guitars or the mods.
In the early 2000s, Dolsey built a display stand for Fender, and while attending the NAMM show where his stands were displaying Fender guitars, he made contact with Korean guitar manufacturers who could build guitars to Dolsey's specs. Dolsey's guitars include classic shapes, vintage spec pickups, and unique modifications. An example is a Tele-style guitar with a carved top, semi-hollow body, three P-90 pickups, three volume knobs (one for each pickup), and a five-way pickup switch where the center pickup is always on. Dolsey carries classic styles with neck-thru builds, rather than bolt-on necks, classic bolt on neck F style guitars, and other classic styles in custom color combinations. In 2012, Dolsey began offering all-tube amplifiers under his Michael Dolsey Designs brand as well. For more information, contact Dolsey directly.
