Luthier/designer Bill Merchant has been offering quality, electric, upright basses for a number of years. Merchant's current bass collapses to half its size in less than a minute and fits in a road case half the size of the old one. The four string bass lists for $3,200 and the five string for $3,500, and all include a flight case.
