Luthier Kenneth Lawrence had a six-year background in European style furniture and cabinet building before he began working at Moonstone Guitars. Lawrence worked with owner/luthier Steve Helgeson for five years constructing guitars and basses at Moonstone before starting his own Lawerence Instruments in 1986. Lawerence also draws upon his twenty-eight-year bass-playing background in his designs. Lawrence crafts his instruments from responsibly harvested rainforest hardwoods from southern Mexico and Central America, and this forestry project is monitored and endorsed by the Rainforest Alliance. The exotic woods featured in Lawrence's instruments like Grenadillo, Katalox, and Chechen share similar sonic characteristics to traditional hardwood choices.
