Luthier Simon Farmer has been building guitars since 1983 and after several years of building under his own name, he started Gus Guitars. In the early 1990s, a prototype called the Guitube appeared in press. This guitar featured steel tubing that formed the bouts of the guitar body, a routed Canadian rock maple fingerboard, a Kent Armstrong humbucker pickup, and a gas-spring dampened tremolo system. In 1997, Farmer displayed a handcrafted carbon fiber guitar at the January NAMM show. Currently, Farmer is building under the name Gus Guitars and they feature similar steel-tubed models available as the G-1 guitar and the G-3 bass.
