Grendel basses were licensed by Michael Tobias Design (MTD Basses) and were built in the Czech Republic. Grendel basses were also available in the English music market under the Stadium trademark, and are offered through Bass Centre. Grendel basses are named after the monster character in the literary work Beowulf. The factory that produced these basses went bankrupt in circa 2001, and the Grendel trademark is owned by Michael Tobias. Currently, he does not license the Grendel trademark to anyone.
Instruments previously built in Czechoslovakia until the early 2000s. Distributed by Matthews & Ryan Musical Products, Inc., in New York City, NY.
