Designer Allan Gittler introduced an electric guitar that expressed its design through function. This guitar is a unique design in that there is only a metal frame with frets press-fitted into place – no wood exists in the guitar. Gittler produced the first sixty instruments himself in the U.S., and an additional 500 were produced by Astron in Israel under an agreement. A few Gittler basses were produced as well. In 1982, Gittler moved to Israel and took the Hebrew name of Avraham Bar Rashi. Bar Rashi offered a new, innovative, wood constructed design that further explores his guitar concepts for a few years. Gittler passed away in 2002. Source: Brian Gidyk, Vancouver, Canada.
Instruments previously handbuilt by Allan Gittler in New York from mid-1970s to mid-1980s. Between 1986 and 1987 the Astron company of Israel produced commercial versions based on the original unique design.
