PLAYER

The Player model MDS-1B attempted to give the musician control over his sound by providing pop-in modules that held different pickups. The MDS-1B model was routed for two modules (other models were either routed for one or three). The plastic modules that housed the DiMarzio pickups were inserted from the back of the guitar into mounting rings that had four phospor-bronze self-cleaning contacts. Empty modules were also available if the musician wanted to install his own choice of pickups to the guitar.
The offset double cutaway body was one piece Honduran mahogany, and featured a bolt-on neck with either rosewood or ebony or maple fingerboards. The headstock had six on one side Gotoh mini tuners, and the bridge was a Kahler locking tremolo. The scale length was 25.5 in. and had 22-frets. Controls consisted of a master volume and master tone, individual volume knobs for each pickup, and a 3-way pickup selector switch. The price of $1,100 included a hardshell case, but the pickups were optional!
