Rudy Pensa founded Rudy's Music Shop on West 48th street in New York back in 1978. Rudy's Music Shop features both retail instruments, amps, and effects as well as vintage classics. In 1983 John Suhr added a repair section to the shop, and within two years the pair collaborated on custom guitars and basses. Pensa-Suhr instruments feature exotic woods, pickup and wiring options, and other upgrades that the player could order. Pensa-Suhr instruments were high quality, and built along the lines of classic American designs.
In 1989, John Suhr moved to California and teamed up with Bob Bradshaw to open up a custom pedalboard/custom guitar shop. In 1994, Suhr joined the Fender custom shop as a Master Builder, and helped modernize the Fender Precision designs in addition to his Custom Shop duties. In 1997, Suhr opened up his own shop to build custom guitars under the Suhr trademark. Rudy Pensa maintained Rudy's Music Shop in New York City, and continues producing guitars and basses under the Pensa Classic trademark.
Instruments previously produced in New York, NY between the mid-1980s and early 1990s.
