Jansen guitars and amplifiers were manufactured by Beverly Bruce and Goldy Ltd., who continued to produce amplifiers and P.A. gear through the late 1980s. During the 1960s and 1970s, Jansen guitars were the most popular brand in New Zealand. One notable U.S. example of Jansen guitars was the Jazzman model that was used by the Surfaris.
Jansen guitars were basically Fender-style copies. The Invader model was based on the Stratocaster, while the Beatmaster and Jazzman were based on the Telecaster and Jaguar, respectively. Jansen basses also played "follow the leader," with the Rock Bass and Beat Bass models emulating the Precision and Telecaster basses. Further market surveys will review playability and production quality. Rarity and lack of activity in the secondary marketplace precludes accurate pricing on this model.
