Mr. Swartele worked for twenty-one years as a pattern maker before he began building guitars. He builds Model "D" guitars in small production lots of forty instruments and finalizes production in groups of five to six pieces. He uses Honduras mahogany for the back, sides and necks and European and Engelmann spruce for the tops as well as Northwestern red cedar. He has also used Sitka spruce. Necks are graphite reinforced and graphite is also used for the nut and saddle. Swartele guitars are known for their sustain and tonal balance. Instruments are finished in a Natural oil finish.
