Luthier Howard Klepper builds custom acoustic instruments in his Berkeley, CA shop. Klepper began working on guitars in 1968 and built his first guitar in 1977. Over the years, Klepper has met several important figures in the guitar industry, and much of this has to do with his location in California. However, the guitar market became saturated in the late 1970s, and Klepper went back to school. Klepper taught law and philosopy for almost twenty years when he retured to Berkeley in 1997. He leased a warehouse and started doing woodturning, but he eventually came back to guitar building in 2001.
Klepper builds all kind of instruments including classicals, carved archtops, and even solidbody electrics. Every guitar is custom built and therefore is a one-of-a-kind model and Klepper only builds about ten guitars a year. Prices on flattop acoustic guitars start at $5,750 and several options are available. For more information, visit Klepper's website or contact him directly.
