Bogdon Music produces the Bogdon Box Bass, which is basically a do-it-yourself kit that results in a cardboard box bass. The parts are shipped to the customer and the customer assembles all of the components. Unlike most guitar kits, this one uses an odd variety of components including nuts and bolts tuners, nylon weed whacker strings, and a finishing nail for a nut. A three-piece white oak glues to the cardboard box and there is a Piezo pickup mounted inside. Although this is a true hardware store instrument, it actually sounds pretty good! Retail prices range from $120 to $134. For more information, visit Bogdon's website or contact them directly.
