Gerhard Almcrantz started producing guitars and mandolins around 1895, in Chicago, Illinois. He apparently had a patent for a detachable neck. He joined up with a partner, Gideon Tornquist, to produce some other products, and made guitars until about 1905. An Almcrantz acoustic guitar bearing a label reading "July 1895" was featured in the first edition of Tom Wheeler´s reference book American Guitars (HarperCollins Publishers, New York). Source Larry Myers. Due to the extreme age and rarity of these guitars, a used price has not been established.
Instruments previously built in Chicago, IL in the late 1800s and early 1900s.
