GILCHRIST

Australian luthier Stephen Gilchrist is known for his high quality mandolins, mandolas, and mandocellos. Gilchrist began building instruments in 1976, and spent 1980 in the U.S. working in Nashville, TN at Gruhn Guitars. After 1980, Gilchrist returned to Australia where he continues to produce mandolins as well as a few guitars. Gilchrist has built a number of acoustic and electric guitars; most of the electric guitars were built between 1987 and 1988. Currently, Gilchrist focuses on the mandolin family. To make identification of these guitars a bit difficult, some models do not have the Gilchrist name anywhere on the instrument and none of them have a serial number.
