LANEY

Laney was founded in 1967 by amp enthusiast Lyndon Laney and salesman Bob Thomas in Birmingham, England. The first Laney amplifiers are modeled very close to the Marshall Plexi models of the late 1960s. Laney continued through the 1970s with their small lineup of amps, but they became very popular among heavy metal, especially with Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath. In the 1980s, Laney introduced the Advanced Overdrive Response (AOR) line of amps. In 1989, Laney bought the HH Amplification company to produce speakers and MOSFET power amps. In 1993, Laney teamed up with Ibanez to be the exclusive distributor in the U.S., and an entire new line of amps was introduced with the American in mind. Since then, Laney has produced the GH, VC, TT, and LC tube amplifiers along with a vast range of solid-state electric, acoustic, and bass amplifiers. Distribution in the U.S. has shifted hands several times with the Musical Distributors Group being the most recent.
