Sonic Machine Factory. Amplifiers previously produced in Newport Beach, CA between circa 2002 and 2005.
SMF stands for Sonic Machine Factory, LLC, which was founded in 2002 by Rick Hamel. Rick was working in San Diego with his line of SIB effects pedals, and Mark Sampson of Matchless fame was consulted to engineer these amps. All amplifiers were hand-assembled in California. SMF stopped producing amps around 2005 after approximately 300 of them were produced. Mark Sampson moved on to build Star amplifiers and it is unknown what Rick Hamel is doing today.
