Amplifiers previously produced in Westbury, NY from the late 1960s until the 1970s.
The Oliver Sound Company was started by Jess Oliver after he left Ampeg in 1966. Oliver started the company with Gene Andre who was a technician from Ampeg. Most Oliver amps were based off of Ampeg's designs, including an extension on the Portaflex. The Oliver Powerflex was probably their most popular design where an electric motor would elevate the head out of the speaker cabinet on a platform. Oliver also produced combo amps with a rotating speaker cabinet. Oliver received patents on the Powerflex, Orbital Power Projector, and the Electro-Vibe Pick-Up. Jess Oliver passed away on June 30, 2011. History courtesy: Gregg Hopkins & Bill Moore, Ampeg: The Story Behind the Sound.
