In 1969, Sven Henrik Gawron began studying the doublebass at the age of twelve. Ten years later he attended the Folkwang-Hochschule Conservatory in Essen, Germany, and participated in several modern jazz foundations. Gawron began seriously studying the repair and restoration of acoustic double basses in 1980, which lead to his opening of Studio fur Kontrabasse eight years later as a music shop specializing in doublebasses, pickups, and amplification. Gawron collaborated with M.B. Schulz Design in Dusseldorf in 1992 to develop the prototype of the Vectorbass, a slim, modern electric upright bass. The aim of Vektor is to combine modern design with traditional sound of the acoustic double bass. Vecktor Germany, is a registered trademark and Vektor Basses are played in bands including, Prince's New Power Generation (Rhonda Smith), Herbie Hancock (Matthew Garrison), and Oregon (Glen Moore). Gawron currently runs his shop runs under the name Kontrabasspunkt Viersen.
