See Spector. Instruments previously built in Korea from 1991-98. Previously distributed exclusively in North America by Armadillo Enterprises of Clearwater, FL.
Stuart Spector co-founded Spector Guitars in 1976, and became well-known for the sleek, neck-through-body design that proved popular with bass players. In 1985, Kramer (BKL) bought the company while Stuart Spector maintained a consulting position for three years.
In 1989, Spector left Kramer and founded Stuart Spector Designs, Ltd. He introduced the SD bass in 1992, and along with Joe Veillette began handcrafting instruments, using custom-made hardware and fine hardwoods. Veillette left SSD in the spring of 1996 to work on his own designs as well as do outside consulting for other firms. Stuart Spector reacquired the rights to his Spector trademark in 1997. Both the U.S. and European produced models became the Spector line, while the current Korean produced models retained the SSD trademark.
The U.S. built NS and SD series models were previously built in Woodstock, New York from 1992 to 1996; and the Europe series models in Czechoslovakia from 1995 to 1996.
